Originally slated for a 2021 release, Lord of the Rings Gollum has since been delayed until 2022, when it’ll launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. As such, it’s possible the game will fill in the story-centric gaps presented here, or provide additional context to the events of Tolkien’s books. It follows the titular creature after he discovers The One Ring, set before the events of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is set to be a canonical story in the Middle-Earth mythos. The German developer has been hard at work over the past few years shaping The Lord of the Rings: Gollum into what could be the next hit for Tolkien’s Middle-Earth universe - one that has had a surprisingly strong track record when it comes to video games.
